Miss Elizabeth Jennings

We’re looking this time for a movie that’s an adaptation of a 1943 radio play. In the above shown scene Miss Elizabeth Jennings is playing bingo and the protagonist wants to speak with her on the phone to find out if Miss Jennings knows where her husband is. Miss Jennings, who is the secretary of the protagonist’s husband, is rather reluctant to leave her bingo session and only listens to the page boy after another person has won.

If I’m not mistaken it must be “Sorry, Wrong Number”.
Radio plays bring back sweet memories of an era when, tucked in bed on a cold winter’s night, you could let your imagination go wild as it seemed to be carried away by the air-waves and tossed around by the howling wind. I personally have spent many a night with a dinosaurian earplug-cum-earphone stuck firmly in my left ear. Sometimes I think I can still feel the pain from having fallen asleep with it lodged deeply in my ear.
Yes, it’s Sorry Wrong Number from 1948 with Barbara Stanwyck as Leona Stevenson. More infos can be found on imdb.
